LINKS has been evolving since its beginning in 1993 and has been at the forefront of the community development movement. Then, the focus was on designing a model for community engagement stressing the importance of inclusion of public and private sector organizations. The publication of the LINKS Community Prevention Plan in 1996, served as a blueprint for organizing community response to critical issues. This led to cross-system partnerships and increased community funding for joint projects such as the Arizona Department of Health Tobacco Prevention Grant, the State Incentive Grant for Substance Abuse Prevention, Drug Free Communities Support Program Grant, and the Juvenile Crime Prevention Initiative Grant. As part of its evolution, LINKS became a 501C3 charitable organization in 2004.
Today, LINKS is a purveyor of sound information leading to community action. LINKS assists policy makers, scholars, business people, the media and the public by providing objective analysis of Scottsdale's critical quality of life issues.
